Students are to write down some things that they enjoyed about the story and somethings that they did not like about the story. Students are to take note of their writing during this activity. They are to write clearly and correctly use uppercase and lower case letters. They are also to make sure that their writing size is consistent.

Butterfly Symmetry
Students are given an piece of paper that has been cut out into the shape of a butterfly. The students are to then paint on one side of the butterfly (one wing). Once they have done this they fold the butterfly in half and open it back up again to reveal a symmetrically painted butterfly. After creating their butterfly students are to write an explanation of what symmetry is. They are to refer to their butterfly they created when writing this.English component: Writing
Pictograph
Students are to create a pictograph of the foods eaten from Monday to Friday in the picture book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". For example on Tuesday the caterpillar ate two pear, so the student would write the word Tuesday and draw two pears to represent how much he ate on Tuesday. Students are to explain to a partner the pictograph they created and what it shows.English Component: Speaking and Listening
Science
Food Chain
Students are to draw a small food chain of what the caterpillar eats and what eats the caterpillar. Students will need to use the internet before drawing the food chain in order to find out what caterpillars eat and what eats caterpillars.
After doing this and drawing their food chains students are to the discuss/ explain their food chain with the person next to them.

Lifecycle of a Caterpillar
Students are to learn about the lifecycle of a caterpillar.After learning about the lifecycle students are to draw the stages of the lifecycle and label what each stage is under the picture. After drawing and labelling the lifecycle students are to take turns at explaining each phases of the lifecycle to a partner. English Component: Writing and Speaking and Listening.
Health
Healthy and Unhealthy Foods
Students are to create a table. Their table should contain two columns with the headings healthy food and unhealthy food. Students are to then sort the food the caterpillar eats into either the healthy or unhealthy food column. They can do this by drawing a picture of the food in the column it belongs and writing the name of the food underneath the picture.
English Component: Writing; When students write the names of the food under their picture they are to use their knowledge of familiar words to help them write unknown names of food.
Food Pyramid
Students are to sort the food from the book into the food pyramid. After students have done this they are to add some foods of their own choice in the pyramid. Students are to then write a small explanation of what each level of the food pyramid contains.English Component: Writing
