Reading Aloud (ACELY1669)
Students are divided into groups of four and each student is given a copy of the text “The Cat in the Hat” by Dr. Seuss. The teacher then allocates a character to the students in each group, these being, the Cat, the Fish, Sally, and Conrad. Students work together to convert the chosen text section into a script by reading the story aloud with one another, following the speech of their allocated character. Students highlight and practice reading their parts of the book, learning any unfamiliar words by using the sounding out strategy.
Recording the Text (FSR MD pg. 157) ACELY1669
Once students have broken up the text they must record their script as a group using an iPads. Each student must read the dialogue of their allocated character. Students should speak clearly focusing on their intonation. Once complete the group should listen to their recording and identify any areas that need improvement.
