Psychosexual stages of Development
1. ORAL
Birth- 1
Mouth : pleasure derived from sucking
Fixation
: result in problems with drinking, eating, smoking, or nail biting.
2. ANAL
1-3
Toilet training ( external reality)
Anal expulsive personality
links to messy, wasteful, or destructive personality.
Fixation
: Anal retentive personality links to orderly, obsessive and rigid.
3. Phallic
4-5
Incestuous fantasies; Oedipus complex, Electra complex; anxiety
Fixation
: penis envy was never fully resolved and that all women remain somewhat fixated on this stage
4. Latency
5-puberty
Period of sublimation of sex instinct
fixation
Extremely sexually unfulfilled
5. Genital
Adolescence- Adulthood
sex role identify and adult social relationship
Fixation
Unsatisfactory relationship, impotence.
Technique
Free Association
a process where the client verbalizes any thoughts that may without censorship
encourages the client to report to the therapist without bias or criticism whatever enters his or her mind.
Analysis of transference
a process where the client is encouraged to attribute to counselor those issues that have caused difficulties with significant authority figures in their lives
TRANSFERENCE
the client's feelings are directed toward the therapist as though the therapist were the source of the feelings.
Analysis of resistance
a process where the counselor helps the client to gain insight into what causes form the basis for a hesitation or halting of therapy
Interpretation
a process where the counselor helps the client to gain insight into past and present events
Dream Analysis
a process where the client relates their dreams to the counselor.
