Implications of Technology
Legal
Computer Misuse Act
Legislations
It makes 'Unauthorised Access' illegal. This includes hacking or using other techniques to use a computer system you are not entitled to use.
'Unauthorized Access' where you intend to commit further offences (e.g. fraud) is treated as a more serious crime.
'Unauthorized Modification' is also illegal. This means changing data without permission, or deliberately infecting a computer with a virus.
Consequences
businesses losing income if the attack shuts their e-commerce site down
cost associated with improving security to prevent further attacks
risk of infection with viruses or malware that may lie undetected but could send information to hackers/criminals
loss of reputation for businesses as the public may believe that they cannot keep their system secure
Social
Less interaction with other people due to technologies due to new technology such as self-checkouts and online shopping
Overuse of technology can be fatal e.g using technology whilst crossing the road
Depending too much on technology can be negative as it can be risky e.g not backing up data in case the files get corrupted
Digital Divide
Age - older people do not know how to use new technology
Location - urban areas have better internet access than rural areas
Wealth - more wealthy areas can afford better and newer technology
Ethical
Privacy can be breached on technology, which can lead to identity theft
Artificial Intelligence could be going too far in terms of development of technology as it can result in machines outsmarting human authority
As the world develops, more and more jobs can be done using machinery. making human employees ineffective and ultimately cutting them from the job, which can affect the employee's life drastically if they have no income
Environmental
Incorrect disposal of technology could lead to harmful environmental issues e.g intoxicating river and lakes
Transporting technology can lead to pollution as HGVs are mainly used for this type of logistic
Non-renewable resources, like gold, are used to make technology, decreasing the abundance of that resource.
