Stage 1
Day 1: Menstruation occurs which is the uterus lining breaks down. It tends to last between 2-9 days
Stage 2
From around day 4-14: the uterus lining is repaired. It prepares for a fertilised egg by being really thick and soft
Stage 3
Day 14: Ovulation occurs which is where an egg is released from the ovary (alternates per cycle) ready to be fertillised
Stage 4
Day 14-28: the egg and uterus is maintained waiting for it to be fertilised. If it isn't fertilised then the uterus breaks down and the cycle starts again
