Adrenergic drugs (Salmeterol (Indications (maintenance treatment of asthma…
Adrenergic drugs
Salmeterol
-
Stimulates intracellular adenylate cyclase, an enzyme that catalyses' conversion of adenosine triphosphate to cyclic adenosine monophosphate. Increase cAMP levels relax bronchial smooth muscle and inhibit release of mediators of immediate hypersensitivity
-
contraindication
history of hypersensitivity to salmeterol, not to be used as monotherapy for asthma and not for acute bronchospasm
side effect
frequent headache, cough, tremor, tachycardia, dizzness, nausea, heartburn, and diarrhea
-
administration
instruct the patient to open and prepare mouthpeace of diskus device and slide device lever to activate the first dose
Dopamine
Mechanism of action
It is a vasopressor and inotropic agent. It works by increasing the pumping strength of the heart and kidney blood supply
Contraindication
pheochromocytom, sulfite sensitivity, uncorrected tachyarrythmias and ventricular fibrillation.
side effect
headache, ectopic beat, tachycardia, anginal pain, vasoconstriction, hypotension and dyspnea
unopened vials are stored at room temperature. dopamine is stable for 24 hour after dilution. do not use solution darker than slightly yellow or solution that has discolored to brown or pink to purple. do not freeze
for IV use dilute 200-400mg vials in 250ml of NORMAL SALINE. administer to large vein such as antecubital or subclavian vein to prevent drug extravasation
indications
Dopamine HCl is indicated for the correction of hemodynamic imbalances present in the shock syndrome due to myocardial infarction, trauma, endotoxic septicemia, open-heart surgery, renal failure, and chronic cardiac decompensation as in congestive failure.
Mechanism of action
Is a direct sympathetic drug that acts as an antagonist at alpha and beta-adrenergic receptors. It produces vasoconstriction to counteract the vasodilation and resulting hypotension associated with anaphylaxis . The bronchodilators effects of epinephrine and its ability to reduce mucosal oedema relieve bronchoconstriction and improve respiratory effort.
indication
Emergency treatment in anaphylaxis. Bronchospasm. Angioedema. Urticarial, Serum sickness
Contraindications

• glaucoma, angle-closure
