Jerusalem
A very important city to Muslims, Christians and Jews.
Generally important because it is connected to there faith really heavily. for Muslims the quran, for Christians the bible.Etc.
When the Muslim Turks took control of Jerusalem in 1071, they began to harass and even kill visiting Christian pilgrims. (pilgrim is one who travels to a sacred place to show devotion to his or her faith).
Jerusalem is a holy land which means it is a land in the middle Est which has significant importance for Christians Muslims and Jews.
Saladin Ayyubi
known as Salah ad-Din or Saladin, was the first sultan of Egypt and Syria and the founder of the Ayyubid dynasty. A Sunni Muslim of Kurdish ethnicity, Saladin led the Muslim military campaign against the Crusader states in the Levant.v

The First Crusade
Basically, Christians fought against non-Christians AND heretics (a Christian who holds views that conflict with official church meetings.
Reasons, why so many knights joined the first crusade, is that the pope promised them a chance to gain wealth, power, land and knighthood. they were also promised eternal life in heaven.
The knights took over city after city including the Holy land, Nicaea, Antioch and, finally, Jerusalem.

Turks
the Turks conquered Jerusalem multiple times and after it was taken by enemies. However in the end of the crusades, they had it to themselves.
