Apprenticeship schemes
This is a way of learning the skills necessary for various careers while earning at the same time.
An Apprenticeship will often suit young people who do not want to go into full-time further or higher education, but still want to gain extra qualifications that are work related.
Apprenticeships can be undertaken in a huge number of different sectors and industries, from agriculture, law and engineering to education, retail and art.
The usual method of entry is through a standard application and offer process, i.e. candidates apply for a specific position and successful candidates are offered an apprenticeship. In exchange for working as an employee on a relatively low wage, a candidate will be trained to learn a new skill.
Coaching
A form of personal development in business.Coaching does not include providing advice - rather the focus is on the Coachee / Client’s own thinking. Relationships are contracted for specific periods of time. Coaching does not require the coach to have direct experience of their client’s formal occupational role - although it is expected that they will have a sufficient understanding of the business or organizational sphere they are operating in.
Mentoring
A form of personal development in business. Long-term programmes that allow a lower-ranking manager to be mentored by a more experienced executive who is not their immediate boss - someone who can bring another perspective. The mentor offers personal training and advice.
Reverse mentoring
Junior employees tutoring more senior ones in the latest technologies and social trends, so that the senior managers can keep up with new factors affecting their business, such as social networking.
