PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Hyperglycemia damages or injure the nerve fibres throughout the body, but often damages nerves in the legs and feet. Pathologic changes in the nerve are related to poor glucose control, and ischaemic lesions of the nerves and the chemical changes in the peripheral nerve cells.
DEFINITION
Type of peripheral neuropathy of the extremities, typically the feet and lower legs, due to nerve damage caused by elevated blood glucose levels
