Components of long bones

Periosteum: Surrounding bone, Provides attachment to ligaments and osteogenic tissue.

Compact bone: Columns of osteons. Covers all bone surface. Periosteum covers all bone, except condyles.
Spongy bone: Found in all bones; specifically the ends of long bones and around the bone cavity. Composed of trabeculae which is covered in endosteum.

Bone cells

Osteoblasts: cell creates bones extracellular matrix. Once extracellular matrix hardens with the introduction of minerals osteoblasts become osteocytes.

Osteoclasts: Very large bone destroying cells. Releases minerals into the blood stream, and organic material is broken down within the cell.

Synovial joints
Synovial membrane: Secretes synovial fluid which lubricates the joint cavity, and also nourishes the joint cavity.
