The Urinary System
Glomerular Filtration
the blood plasma is processed; not the water we drink. kidneys filter the blood plasma w/ the help of the nephrons.

-
-
Tubular Reabsorption
-
-
Begins as soon as filtrate moves into proximal convoluted tubule, which is where most reabsorption occurs.
Filtrate at the distal convoluted tubule and collecting duct, Na and H2O transfer is regulated by aldosterone, antiduretic hormone, and atrial natriuretic peptide.
-
Tubular Secretion
-
-
Most active in the proximal convoluted tubule, but also occurs in the distal convoluted tubule and collecting ducts.
-
-
-
-
Intracellular Fluid
-
The concentration of sodium and potassium are lower in the cytosol compared to the extracellular fluid
-
-
Blood Plasma
-
93% water by volume and contains proteins, glucose, clotting factors, mineral ions, hormones, and CO2.
-
-
Phosphate
-
-
Builds and repairs bones and teeth, helps nerve function, makes muscles contract.
-
Transcellular Fluid
Smallest component of EF, IF, and plasma. Makes up 2.5% of EF

-
-
Calcium
Builds and maintains bones and teeth. Contraction of muscles, release of neurotransmitters, regulation of heart beat, clotting of blood, all dependent on calcium.
