Classes of reinforcers

Secondary reinforcers
Stimulus that is not related to survival but was reinforced through a primary reinforce such as – kind words, money, gifts, attention.
If a child display positive behaviour then he/she/they can get an ice cream followed by a hug from the father/mother.
Generalised reinforcers
Here we deal with secondary reinforcers that does not depend on motivation related to more than one primary reinforcer – such as approval from parents, or to drive a car (to get home because you know there will be food and water).

5) Discrimination
In classical conditioning, discrimination is learned when the bell (a positive conditioned stimulus) of Pavlov, is always linked with food (unconditioned); but also when a second similar negative conditioned stimulus is always presented alone.
