What is imperialism?
a form of colonialism and it is the creation of an empire consisting of conquered nations. It provides them w/ cheap resources, trade, and power/prestige
difference between colonialism and imperialism: both refer to economic and politic; control over another land & people - imperialism is a FORM of colonialism
imperialism is more about spreading values and culture and way of life

maintaining and expanding trade
they were so wealthy because of the trade they had with India and others
importing raw materials and selling manufactured goods
strengthen imperial power by powerful navy - the worlds largest & a fleet of commercial ships
british empire was the largest nd wealthiest in the world - occupied 1/4 of the globe
they started before everyone else
1880-1914 --- increase in imperialism
Africa --- GB, Fra, Ger, Ila, Bel --> 90%
Asia --- Rus, GB, Fra, Jap, Ger, Usa -- various regions
