Combined Science-B1
-
Plant cell-
-
Vacuole-contains cell sap, a weak solution of sugar and salts.
Chloroplasts-these are where photosynthesis occurs, which makes food for the plant.
Specialised cells
Egg cell-
-
-
-
Straight after fertilisation, its membrane changes structure to stop any more sperm getting in.
Sperm cell-
the head contains sperm cells nucleus.the nucleus carries only one half of an organism's genetic material.
-
-
Cilliated Epithelial-
-
Movingcilia needs energy from respiration,so these cells contain many mitochondria.
-
Microscopy-
Electron microscopes-use electrons rather than light, electron microscopes have a higher magnification and resolution than light microscopes and lets us see much smaller things in more detail like the internal structure of mitochondria
Light microscopes -work by passing light through the specimen.they let us see things like nuclei and chloroplasts and we can use them to study living cells.
-
Osmosis-is the diffusion of water across a partially permeable membrane from a dilute solution (high concentration of water) to a concentrated solution (low concentration of water).
Diffusion-is the gradual movement of particles from places where there are lots of them to places where there are fewer of them.also is the net movement of particles form an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
Active transport-is the movement of particles across a membrane against a concentration gradient transferred during respiration.
Enzymes
Lock and key mechanism-the substrate has to fit into the active site.if the substrate shape doesnt match the active site's shape
Catalyst-is a substance which increases the speed of the reaction, without being changed or used up in the reaction.
