[Author : Johanes Marcelus Kraak, Marcello Russo, Alfredo Jimenez (2018) ]
Research Objectives
To examine the role of work-life balance (WLB)
inducements of the psychological contract on three work-related outcomes for a sample of Dutch older workers.
Theory
social exchange theory (Blau, 1964),
-
conservation of resource (COR) theory (Hobfoll, 1989)
suggests that employees react positively to situations that can make them more capable of accomplishing the things they like

Main Finding
This is an important contribution; COR researchers tend to believe that older workers are more interested in resources that will help them fulfill emotional goals rather than material ones, due to different perceptions of time (Carstensen et al., 1999).
Older workers highly appreciate
receiving instrumental help and flexibility to accommodate work and non-work commitment.
COR Theory
insightful to people of all ages and that older workers are interested in being engaged in resourceful jobs that provide them with the necessary resources to cope with all domains of their lives.
older worker turnover intentions
initially increased along the fulfillment line before finally decreasing.
