Close reading: The Three Levels of Reading for "The tail"
Level one
The main idea of "The tail" is about a girl who doesn't want too take care of her brother, but her mom is making her, and she hadn't revised how she actually cares about him
A girl has to take care of her brother over the summer. She doesn't want too so they go to the park to play with her friends. Her brother gets lost and she realizes her care for him.
When the brother got lost, when the dog was really just a sweet puppy, and how she actually cares about the brother.
What is double dutch? Why is it so important?
Clutched, Pesky, Broadway, Stickball.
Clutched: grasp or seize (something) tightly or eagerly.
Pesky: causing trouble; annoying.
Broadway: (usually in names) a large open or main road.
Stickball: an informal game resembling baseball, played with a stick and a (usually rubber) ball.
Level two
The author's purpose in writing "The tail" appears to be to entertain. They made an interesting story that isn't based on real events, and isn't trying to persuade you. Its fiction. So by context, and process of elimination. The author's purpose is to entertain.
It seems the author is annoyed by the younger brother, but this tone changes near the end, with the moral shining through.
The theme of the tail is you never miss a tail until you almost lose it.

The point of view is from someone who enjoys their socializing. Just by how they act and react to their friends and other people it shows their more of the social type.
The younger brother enjoys annoying his older sibling. It seems that he purposefully tries to annoy them as much as possible throughout the whole story
