The foundation for planning a counseling group grapples many aspects. An important aspect as described by Sink, Edwards and Eppler (2012) is that the group is used for systemic change, student behavioral changes, and/or to foster educational development. With this in mind, a clear focus needs to be present when gathering resources. It can be easy randomly select a source based on a title that sounds similar enough to the chosen topic. An easy mistake to make is to need read through the resources that are planned to be presented to students. If the group leaders are misinformed, or do not have enough information, it can lead the students to question the validity and purpose of the group. With a clear focus as to what resources are needed, the group leaders can ensure that students are receiving accurate information and sufficient information to make future decisions.
