Non-carbonyl Functional Groups 22.1-22.2
Reema Bawazir 12b
Halocarbons
Steps For Naming
:
2)
follow alphabetical order in naming Halogens
3)
use prefixes and #s to find their positions
1)
start numbering the parent chain in a way to give functional group the lowest #
4)
change ending of Halogens by adding (o)
Functional Group
: Halogens
Example:
Amines
Example:
Naming:
2)
name it as parent chian
3)
make sure to give Amino group lowest number
1)
Find longest chain
4)
change ending of parent chain by Amine
Functional Group:
Amino
Ethers
Example:
Steps For Naming:
3)
end the name with the word Ether
4)
if (R) is Benzene ring it will be called Phenyl
2)
write them according to alphabetical order
5)
if the (R) groups are the same name them once without prefix (di)
1)
name the 2 groups attached to (o) as alkyl groups
Functional Group:
Ether
Alcohol
Functional Group:
Hydroxl Group
Example:
Steps For Naming:
3)
name any alkyl group and list its position
2)
give the OH group the lowest number
4)
name the parent chain according to number of carbon
1)
choose longest chain
5)
remove (e) from parent chain name and replace it by (ol)
6)
identify the location of OH group using number before parent name
