Non Carbonyl Function Group
Halocarbons
Start numbering the parent chain in a way to give functional group the lowest number
Follow the alphabetical order in naming Halogens
Use prefixes and number to find their position
Change ending of Halogens by adding -O
Cl -> chloro
F -> Fluoro
I -> Iodo
Br -> Bromo
Functional group: Halogen
Example: chlorocarbons
Amines
Find the longest chain
Name as a parent chain
Make sure to give Amino gp lowest number
Change ending of parent chain by -amine
Functional group: Amino
Example: diphenylamine
Ether
Name the 2 groups attached to the (O) as alkyl groups
Write according to their alphabetical order
end the name with the word Ether
if (R) is benzene ring it will be called phenyl
if the 2 R gps are the same name then one without profit di
Functional group: Ether
Example: diethyl ether
Alcohol
Choose the longest chain
give the (OH) gp the lowest #
Name any alkyl gp & list its position
name the parent chain according to the # of carbon
remove (e) and replace by (ol)
identify the location of (OH) gp using # before the parent name
Functional group: Hydroxyl
Example: Ethanol
