Non-carbonyl Functional Group
Halocarbon
Naming
2-Follow alphabetical order in naming halogens
3-Use prefixes and number to find their position
1-Start numbering the parent chain in a way to give functional group the lowest number
4-Change ending of halogens by adding -O
Example:
Functional Group:Halogen
General Formula:
Alcohol
Example:
Naming
3- Name any alkyl group and list its position
4- Name the parent chain according to number of carbon
2- Give the (OH) group the lowest number
5- Remove (e) and replace it by (ol)
1- Choose the longest chain
6- Identify the location of (OH) group using number before the parent chain
Functional Group: Hydroxyl
General Formula:
Ethers
Naming
3-End the name with the word ether
4- If (R) is benzene ring it will be called phenyl
2- Write them according to their alphabetical order
1- Name the two groups attached to the O as alkyl group
5- If the 2 R groups have the same name then name them once without prefix (di)
Example:
Functional Group: Ether
General Formula:
Amines
Functional Group: Amino
General Formula:
Naming
2- Name as parent chain
3- Make sure to give Amino group lowest number
1- Find the longest chain
4- Change the ending of parent chain by -amine
Example:
