Naming of non carbonyl functional group
1- Halocarbons
3- Use prefixes and numbers to find the position
4- Change the ending of Halogens by adding (-o)
2- Follow alphabetical order in naming Halogens
Example :
1- start numbering the parent chain in a way to give the functional group the lowest number
2- Alcohol
4- Name the parent chain according to number of carbon
5- Remove (e) and replace it by (ol)
3- Name any alkyl group and list its position
6- identify the location of (OH) group using number before the parent name
2- give the (OH) group the lowest number
Example :
1- choose longest continuous chain
3- Ether
4- If (R) is benzene ring it will be called phenyl
5- If the 2 R groups are the same write them once
3- end the name with the word ether
2- write them according to alphabetical order
Example :
1- Name the 2 groups attached to (O) as alkyl groups
4- Amines
3- change the (e) with amine
4- if there is more than one group presented use the prefixes (di-tri-tetra)
1- Find the longest chain
5- If it is benzene then it will be anilne
2- find the position of the alkyl group and the amine group and the priority with numbering goes to amine
