Naming of Non-carbonyl functional group
Amine
In organic chemistry, amines are compounds and functional groups that contain a basic nitrogen atom with a lone pair.
Naming
:
1-Name the longest chain
2-give the C bonded to NH2 the lowest number
3-If there is a repeated NH2 the write (di-tri-tetra)
4- end up the name with amine
Note that if NH2 is bonded to Benzene then its called "Aniline"
Example:
Ether
Ethers are a class of organic compounds that contain an ether group—an oxygen atom connected to two alkyl or aryl groups.
Naming:
1-circle the two alkyl groups bonded to the O
2-name the alkyl groups that are bonded to the O
3- write the names Alphabetically
end the name with ether
Example:
CH3-O-CH2-CH2-CH3
ethyl methyl ether
Alcohol
an alcohol is any organic compound in which the hydroxyl functional group (–OH) is bound to a carbon.
Naming
:
2-give (OH) group the lowest number
3-name any alkyl group number list its position
1-choose the longest chain
4-name the parent chain according to carbon atom number
remove e replace it with oL
identify the location of (OH) group using number before parent chain
Example:
Halocarbon
ompound in which the hydrogen of a hydrocarbon is replaced by halogens.
Naming:
1-find the longest chain
2-give the halogen the lowest number
3-locate the halogen
4-write prefixes if there are more than one
5- alphabetical order if different halogens
6-name the parent chain according to the number of carbon atom
Example:
