Formative
Definition: Formative assessments are used for monitoring the mastery of learning outcomes throughout the entirety of the lesson and providing academic feedback.

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark assessments are used to measure students' knowledge and skills by state, district, or classroom level.

STAAR: (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Resources) is an assessment that students take at the end of the year to measure students' achievements and knowledge.
Summative
Definition: Evaluating mastering of learning outcomes at the end of an instructional unit by comparing to a standard.
Semester/Chapter Tests: To retain students' knowledge over what they have learned over the semester.

Definitions: Performance assessments is a form of testing that requires students to perform task, rather than answering questions on a paper.

Designing a model: Drawing a picture to represent equivalent fractions or fractions with a common denominator or numerator.
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are used as pre-assessments to determine students' strengths/weaknesses and prior knowledge.
Written Pre-test: Students write a sentence or two of what they already know about a topic. This can be used a quick write to access students prior knowledge.
Matching activity: Have students match vocabulary words to the correct definition. This will show what terms students' already know.
