Summative
Definition: These assessments are used to measure whether the student has mastered a certain amount of material. Summative assessments are used to evaluate the students overall understanding of the unit.
Common Assessments: Students are tested after every six weeks to evaluate and assess content learned.

Diagnostic
Definition: These assessments are used to inform teachers if the students have any achievement gaps. Diagnostics assessments can be used to differentiate work and to find the strengths and weaknesses of each student.
Pre Assessments: These diagnostic exams are used to analyze where the student is at and to differentiate instruction as needed. Usually given before every new content is taught to adjust the lesson as needed.
Running Records: They measure the student's reading level. Instruction is then differentiated with leveled books.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: These assessments are used to see where the students are at based on where they need to be. With these assessments we can determine if the students are on the right track.

MAP: This computerized test is used to measure the knowledge of the student in the beginning, middle, and end of the school year.
Formative
Definition:Process of gathering evidence of student learning by providing feedback. Adjustments and modifications are made from these assessments to instructional strategies to enhance achievement.
3-2-1 Exit Ticket: Students receive an index card and they will write 3 things they learned, 2 things they found interesting, 1 question they still have.
Think-Pair-Share: As students share with their partners the teacher can go around checking for understanding while listening to the conversations of the students. The feedback from the conversations will help adjust instruction as needed.
Performance
Definition: These assessments do not require the students to answer questions but instead requires them to perform a task.

Research Project Presentation: Students can create a presentation based on what they have learned from their research on a specific person or topic.
