Formative
Definition: Formative assessment is used in the first attempt of developing instruction. The goal is to monitor student learning to provide feedback. It helps to identify the first gaps in your instruction. Based on this feedback you’ll know what to focus on for further expansion for your instruction. This type of assessment is not taken for a grade.
Entrance Ticket- Students answer a question related to the topic. This will help the teacher reflect in students answers and plan a strategy.
Postcard: In a postcard, students will get the opportunity to write anything that comes up when reading the objective. Any information that they can remember from the prior year.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: This type assessment is used to track students learning. In other words, it evaluates the learning process of each individual student.
STAAR: The State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness, evaluates the grade level you are in.
TELPAS:For students in kindergarten through grade 1, TELPAS consists of holistically rated assessments in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. ... The multiple-choice reading test is a one-day test that measures students' annual progress in learning to read in English.
Summative
Definition:is aimed at assessing the extent to which the most important outcomes at the end of the instruction have been reached. But it measures more: the effectiveness of learning, reactions on the instruction and the benefits on a long-term base.
Essay- A written document that evaluates students learning, skill acquisition, and academic achievement at the conclusion of a defined instructional period.
Midterm Exam- are an important part of a student's academic performance and as such, we will endeavor to assist students to perform better by providing a supervised study/work area throughout the day.

Diagnostic
Definition:is a form of pre-assessment that allows a teacher to determine students' individual strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills prior to instruction.
KWL CHART- K-W-L charts are graphic organizers that help students organize information before, during, and after a unit or a lesson.
Running Records: a way to assess a student's reading progress by systematically evaluating a student's oral reading and identifying error patterns. This template will help you track your students' oral reading accuracy.
