Summative
Definition- Summative assessments are assessments used to evaluate a student's learning at the end of a unit- in reference to standards.
Mid-term Exam: Exam given to assess student knowledge pertaining to class material over a period of time.
Essay: An essay allows for students to write what they know regarding the end of a unit of what they have learned.

Interim/Benchmark
Definition-Interim/benchmark are assessments used to see where students are in their learning progress.
District Benchmark: Students take this test in order to see where they are against specific grade-level standards.
MAP: Students take this test in order to measure their achievement in reference to how they will do on state testing.
Formative:
Definition- Formative assessments are assessments that are used to evaluate students through a lesson or unit.
Quizzes: Students take a quiz in order for them to show what they know so far in a unit, before the test.
Exit Ticket- Students can do an exit ticket in order to show the teacher what they learned that day over a specific lesson.
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are used before a unit to see what a student's strength and weaknesses are. This can further be used by teachers to come up with ways for instruction regarding these topics.
Pre- tests: These are tests that students take before a unit in order to help the teacher get an idea for what students already know, or misconceptions they have.
Initial Writing Prompts: These prompts will help give students a time where they can write down what they know, what they think they know, and what they want to find out regarding a topic before a unit. The teacher can then read these.
Performance
Definition: A performance assessment is an assessment that allows students to perform an action instead of doing a test.
Portfolios: Portfolios allow for students' to gather their "best pieces" and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses of several pieces.
Open Ended Response: Open ended responses allow for students to describe their own experiences regarding an educational topic that has been focused on. For an example- "Describe how you solve a two-step equation."
