How is decomposing a fraction into two or more equal ways like decomposing a fraction by its unit fractions?
Is it easier to decompose fractions using unit fractions or by two or more equal ways? Give your opinion and justify your answer.
Formative
Formative assessments can be used through out a unit. They are used to assess student work to help drive instruction and make adjustments. This a low stake assessment.
SNAP - tastic: After a lesson in a unit the students can draw a picture about what they learned in the lesson that day. Then they add a caption that summarizes the picture. Then they add an one sentence explanation for the sketch.
Connect the dots - Students work in small groups. They are given for terms, questions, events ect. Then students work together to fill out the graphic organizer in order to make connections betwen the two ideas at the end of each arrow. This allows the teacher to adjust instruction based on the connections the students are making.
Interim/Benchmark
Benchmarks are large assessments that test students to see if they are on track with their learning. It helps teachers to see where students are within the cirriculum.
STAAR: This is an end of the year assessment. It is the Standardized test in Texas. It used to asses student achivement within their grade level.

Diagnostic
Teachers can use diagnostic tests to help plan instruction. These tests act as a pre-assessment to identify what students already know as well as any misconceptions they may have.
KWL Charts: KWL charts have students organize what they know about a topic, what they want to know, and what they want to lear. This allows teachers to not only look at what students understand about a topic before being taught, but also the students' intrests on the topic.
Initial Writing Prompts: Before teaching a lesson, ask the students a question about the topic and have them write a short paragraph about it. This tells you exactly what the students know about said topic.
Summative
This is a highs stakes assessment. Summative assessments are usually used at the end of a unit. This is to check student understanding of a whole unit.
Exams: Exams are usually given at the end of unit and are graded. This an example of a summative assessment
Projects: Projects require students to use all of their knowledge of a topic to create a finished project
Performance
A performance assessment is a way to assess student learning other than having the student take a test or answering normal questions. This usually requires students to perform a task.
Debates: By having students debate over certain topics they are forced to explain their thinking. It is a good way to understand what students know and what their misconceptions are.
Act it Out: Have students act out a scene that describes or explains a topic or prompt. This is a fun way for students to show you their understanding.
