Formative
Definition: Formative assessment refers to a wide variety of methods that teachers use to conduct in-process evaluations of student comprehension, learning needs, and academic progress during a lesson, unit, or course.
Think Pair Share: Students think about what they learned, pair up with a peer, and share their knowledge.
Classroom Poll: Students can lay their heads down and close their eyes. They will put a thumbs up if they agree that they "can" after referring to the "I can" statement. If not, they will put their thumbs down.
Summative
Definition: The goal of summative assessment is to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit.
End of Unit Test: Questions are given in the form of a test coving topics that were covered in the unit discussed.
