formative
Definition: an assessment used for feedback on how well students are grasping the concept of the lesson being taught. This allows for teachers to make adjustments to their instruction. This is a low stakes assessment, which has little to no impact on a students overall grade.
Exit ticket: a quick check of whether or not students understood the lesson from that day. Can be used in many forms.
Tweet it out: lead4ward strategy. Students have to create a post, illustrate a picture, create a hashtag, and share with a friend. Summarizes learning.
interim/benchmark
Definition: This kind of assessment is taken by students multiple times throughout the school year to track progress

Definition: Used to evaluate students learning after a unit. Typically high stakes and students receive a grade that counts towards them.

Definition: This kind of assessment requires a student to perform a task instead of answering a typical multiple choice or free response. This could be a group project, portfolio, student logs, or journals.

Definition: This kind of assessment i used to find weaknesses and strengths in a student. This can help teacher differentiate their instruction
Pre- assessment: a test given to students before the material is learned to see what background knowledge they already have.
KWL: Students use their prior knowledge to list things they know. They generate questions about the topic, and they record what they learned from the lesson.
