Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments help determine student's strengths and misconceptions are. This will help teachers effectively plan instruction based on their students needs.
Pre- Assessment: Assess students on the learning goals of a unit or lesson before teaching the concepts. This will help the teacher see what students already know and what are the misconceptions they are having. This helps the teacher plan effective instruction to meet student's needs.
Running Records: Teachers look at students running record from the year prior and start them at the beginning to assess student's current reading level and progress. This will help the teacher know what group of students need additonal support in reading .
Summative
Definition: Assess student over a large chunk of learning. These test evaluates student learning and achievement.
Essay: Allows students to write in their own words of what they have learned. Students are able to use their cirtical thinking and higher level thinking to explain concepts in their own point of view.
Midterm/Final Exam: High stake test to evaluate students learning and see if they have reached the learning goal for the semester or at the end of the year.
Benchmark (Intermin)
Definition: Asesses student to identify what the student's academic strengths and weakeness are to help guide future instruction. This will help the teacher know what are concepts need to be reteach to prepare students for the high stakes test.
District Quarter Summatives: These are assessments to help students practice their skills and strategies they have learned. This will help students prepare for the high stakes test.
Project: At the end of the unit or 9 weeks, teacher can asses their knowledge of the whole unit by completing a project based assessment. This will allow the students to use their creativity to present the information they have learned in real life scenarios.
Formative
Definition:
Assessment to help collect evidence of student learning. This helps the teacher know if instruction needs to be adjusted to promote achievement.
Think Pair Share: Students will walk about and pair up with a student when the music stops. When students are paired up, teachers ask them a question for the students to answer or discuss what their responses were. Teacher can circulate and monitor to hear multiple discussions to check their levels of understanding.
3-2-1:
Teacher can use this assessment at the end of a lesson as an exit ticket for students to reflect over what they learned. Teacher would provide a task card with 3 questions for students to answer.

Performance
Defintion: Assess students that requires students to perform a task . This is an assessment that does not include a formal "test" with questions.
Presentation: Allows students to practice their effective presentation skills and be creative. Students can present the information as a group to help them practice collaborating with others.
Portfolio: Students will show their academic work throughout the unit or year. The portfolio would show student's learning progress and achievement. This will help see students progress throughout the year and evaulate what they did and experienced. Students can present their protfolios as their final presentation or science report.
