Definition: Teachers use these tests to conduct assessments of student comprehension, learning needs, and academic progress during a lesson or unit.

Definition: Assessments where students participate in performing tasks or activities that are meaningful and engaging. The purpose of this kind of learning is to help students obtain and apply knowledge and practice skills.

Definition: An assessment that is used to determine students level of knowledge and understandings at the beginning of a unit or lesson. These diagnostic tests assess the student on what they already know. These assessments allow the teacher to adjust instruction based on the needs on the students.

Summative

Definition: Evaluate student learning at the end of a unit or class by comparing it against some standard or benchmark. Summative assessments are often high stakes.

Definition: Benchmarks or interim assessments are the standard or reference point against which something can be measured, compared, or assessed.

Portfolio: Collections of the student's work that illustrate their efforts, progress, and achievements. Teachers and children can compile the collections together from work completed in the classroom.

Puppet Show: acting out a historical figure

Exit Tickets: Write a question or a problem on the Exit Ticket and have students answer to assess their learning.

Think-pair-share: Where students work together to solve a problem or answer a question. First, they think, then they pair up with a partner to discuss, and last they share with the class.

Final Exams: Tests given to assess knowledge at the end of a semester.

End of unit tests: Tests given at the end of an instructional unit.

MAP Tests: Assessments that are taken on the computer that show where students are in math and reading.

STAAR Tests: Grade level standardized tests given by the State of Texas

Surveys: Have students fill out a survey on content so you know where they stand,

KWL Charts: First students write that they already know, then what they want to know, then after they write what they have learned.
