Formative
Definition: Formative assessment is done to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by the teacher to improve their teaching. Also done so the teacher can recognize where students are struggling so they can address the issue immediately.
Think, Pair, Share: Students will think about an interesting fact they learned today, they will pair up with a partner, they will then share the interesting fact that they learned with their partner.

Interm/Benchmark
Definition: Interm/Benchmark assessment are used to evaluate where students are in their learning progress and to determine whether they are on track to perform well on future assessments.
STAAR Test: STAAR Test is a Texas standardized test that is given at the end of the year to assess the students' knowledge and content that they have learned throughout the year.
MAP Test: MAP Test is a computerized test to show students achievement in math and reading usually taken at the beginning of the year, middle of the year, and end of the year.
Performance
Definition: A performance assessment is an assessment that requires students to perform a task or write about something rather than selecting answers from a ready-made list.
Open Ended Question: Students will have to solve and write their math answer after reading a word problem.
Retell & Act Out: Students will retell a story by acting out the main events that happened. This is to show their reading comprehension.
Summative
Definition: Summative assessment is done to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it with a standard or benchmark.
Midterm Exam: Exam given to students to asses their knowledge over a specific content that was learned over a period of time.
Final Essay/Paper: Students have to write a paper or essay to assess what the student has learned throughout the whole unit.
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are a form of pre-assessment that allows a teacher to determine students' individual strengths, weakness, knowledge, and skills prior to instruction. This will also help guide the teacher plan lessons to make sure they meet all of their students' needs.
KWL Chart: A KWL chart stands for what students already know, what students want to know, and what students learned. This a great way to see what students know before starting a unit or lesson.
Pre-Tests: Pre-tests can be given before a lesson or unit so the teacher can see what the students know before the lesson is given.
