Formative
Definition: Formative Assessments is used to monitor student’s learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by instructors or teachers to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning.
Quiz: a test of knowledge, especially a brief, informal test given to students.
Exit Tickets: help you assess if students have learned or what they are thinking and plan for the next lesson or unit of instruction.
Summative
Definition: Summative Assessment is used to evaluate student’s learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark.

Culminating Projects: are used at the end of projects or units and are typically tasks that ask students to apply and demonstrate knowledge and skills
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark Assessment is a form of assessment that educators use to evaluate where students are in their learning progress and determine whether they are on track to performing well on future assessments.

Definition: Diagnostic Assessment provide instructors with information about student's prior knowledge and misconceptions before beginning a learning activity.
Pre-tests: A preliminary test administered to determine a student's baseline knowledge or preparedness for an educational experience or course of study.
Running Records: is a way to assess a student's reading progress by systematically evaluating a student's oral reading and identifying error patterns.
