Summative
Definition: This type of assessment is used to measure student learning at the end of a unit. This is typically an assignment of measurable importance so it is usually associated with a high grade value.
Peer/Self evaluation: Students typically use a rubric to guide them in evaluating their own work or a peers work.
Projects: This is typically something that can take weeks. Projects are usually have a heavy weight on a grade because of all the parts that go into successfully completing one.
Performance
Definition: : Performance assessments require students to carry out a task to be evaluated rather than asking questions.
STEM: Students use hands on activities such as building a track for a car to travel a certain distance.
Exercise: Students in gym class may need to run a mile in a certain time, or have increased in the amount of weight they can lift in weight training as a performance assessment.
Diagnostic
Definition: A diagnostic assessment is typically seen in the form of a pre-assessment. This information helps guide the teacher to create lesson plans that meet the needs of the individual student.
KWL: This is a chart the students make :that states what they know, what they want to know, and what they have learned. This is a good way to measure where the students knowledge was at before and after the lesson.

Concept map: This is a graphic tool that allows the students to connect the relationships between concepts. The teacher can use this a s a guide to see where student understanding is currently at.
Formative
Definition: This is a range of formal and informal assessment procedures carried out by teachers during the learning process. This is to help teachers know where to modify activities to improve student achievement. text
Think Pair Share: The instructor asks a question, and students write down their answers. Students are then placed in pairs to discuss their responses. Teachers are able to move around the classroom and listen to various discussions. It lets them gain valuable insight into levels of understanding.
Classroom Polls: Polls let students give responses quickly and accurately. A silent poll is perfect for those “shy” students who have trouble speaking up. These are also a quick way to check understanding using mobile technology.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/benchmark assessments are used to determine where students are currently at in their academic learning. These results show if a student is on track with their learning, and how they might perform on future assessments.
STAAR: This is a statewide test used in Texas to assess students in different subject areas. This determines if the students have mastered their grade level and where they currently stand in comparison to other students.

CLI: CLI testing is done in kindergarten through 2nd grade. This test is given in waves throughout the school year. It measures students in their understanding of math and ELAR.
