Opening

Formative
Definition: Formative Assessment is a way to monitor student learning to get feedback and see if any adjustment needs to be made in instructions. They are normally low stakes tests, with little to no grade value.
Exit Ticket (I used to think...Now I know...): Students will fill out exit ticket about what they used to think about a subject and what they know about it now.
Think-Pair-Share: Students are asked a question and answer it, then are paired to discuss answers with a partner, then teacher calls on students to share out (teacher monitors listening to conversations during assessment).
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark is an assessment to see where a student's learning is and see if they are staying on track for future testing.
DRA: shows what the students oral fluency rate in reading is and the comprehension level they are at in reading.
STAAR: Texas Standardized test to assess what the students have learned and mastered for each grade level (starting in 3rd grade).
Summative
Definition: Summative assessment is evaluating what student's have learned at the end of a unit. They are often high stakes, which means a high point value on students grades.

A Final Project: An assignment that has the student show what they have learned throughout an entire unit.
Diagnostic
Definition: A diagnostic assessment is to determine a student's strength and weakness for an upcoming lesson. Helps the teacher know how to plan appropriately for the lesson.
Pre-assessment: Create a short assessment to gauge where students are for any subject, to help guide the teacher on planning a future lesson. The pre-assessment will allow the teacher to know which differentiation needs to be planned for.
KWL Chart: Let's a student tell what they know, what they want to know, and what they learned about a lesson. Give to students a couple days before you teach the lesson to fill out the K and W, to adjust future lesson if needed.
Performance
Definition: Performance assessment is testing that has students perform a task instead of taking a pre-made test.
Classroom Debate: Students will try to persuade the other student to agree with their point of view, by proving why it's the better point of view. Showing their mastery in the content they are debating over.
Presentations: Students present their knowledge on a chosen academic topic to the rest of the class, either in groups or individually. Students can create anchor charts, PowerPoint, show a video, etc.
