MASS MEDIA
AMERICAN
3 main features: pervasive influence, freedom and economical power. Major part of the press are privately owned.
BRITISH
Controlled by independent backers. No state control, total freedom. Two important types of newspapers: tabloids and broadsheets.
RADIO
BRITAIN
BBC. Founded in 1922. Run by a board of governors whose job consisted in deciding on the programming and ensuring that the political impartiality was maintained. 5 main radio stations.
AMERICA
It spread in many different regions. There are many radio stations. They usually have a private owner so generally is free from governmental control.
Invention accredited to an Italian - Marconi. It was used for military purposes and shipping news. The 1st World War made Britain organize a radio network.
TELEVISION
BRITAIN
BBC also controls different channels. BBC 2 is the 1st channel to be transmitted in 1964.In 2008 the BBC began experimenting with live stream and all the standard channels were available online.
Other channels: ITV, Granada TV, Carlton, Meridian; which all broadcast at the same time.

Channel 4, set up in 1984. And Channel 5 which opened in 1997. There are also satellite programmes - Sky.

The stations are networked, different system to in Europe.

ADVERTISING

Advertising in Spain is very different from Britain or America. In Britain, the break is 2 minutes only with a maximum of 4 breaks per hour.
The images in advertising are very important, we have 3 categories: icons, indicators and symbols.
