        we can see this with Tesman in the last scene when instead of grieving Loeveborg he channels his energy into organising his notes.
- - - - Judge Brack: represents the values of her old social circle. His norwegian title is 'Assessor' and he belongs to the privileged élite in society.
        
        Due to his social position, he is a man of the world, always impeccably polite, chambering and witty, but utterly ruthless in pursuit of his own advantage.
        
        As an 'Assessor' he would have served as a judge in one of the three courts: the City Court, the Court of Appeal or the High Court. Norway had no judiciary system in the 1890's therefore Brack's standing in society was substantial.
      - these two contrasting worlds are summed up in the play by Judge Brack and George Tesman (and Auntie Juju)
      - George Tesman (and Auntie Juju) who embody values of middle-class domesticity.
        
        Although he is not necessarily from the élite, in social terms, he is just about acceptable to Hedda as a potential husband with his potential prospects to being a professor at the university and unlike Brack he is neither dangerous nor devious.
        
        orphaned at an early age, brought up by his two maiden Aunts, Juliana (Juju) and Rena within their kindly but sentimental and self-indulgent environment.
        
        Tesman grew up a pampered, protected but ambitious young man.
        
        Aunt Juju's kindness is highly selective and carefully calculated to meet her own spiritual needs. Underneath her soft exterior, there is a selfish and possessive streak in her.
      - Eilert Loevborg and through him, Thea Elvsted have rejected the normal limitations imposed by society.
        
        Where they differs that Thea is from the same bourgeois environment as Tesman and would love a cosy and respectable home.
        
        Whereas Loevborg is an aristocrat of the mind who finds tho realities of contemporary bourgeois society repulsive and constraining. Consequently he finds himself driven too easily into excess and a world of indecency.
        
        instead both agave established a relationship based on notions of non-marital companionship - they both share the same social status, Thea is a governess and Eilert a tutor.
