Identify signs of a student with lerning disadvantages
Student unable to focus for acceptable periods of time.
Student is unable to communicate effectively in class or with classmates at breaktime
A dialogue is opened with the parents to further assess the needs of the child.
Parent refuses help.
Teachers give as much individual instruction as time permits. Some of that time may be during student's breaktime exacerbating the problem.
Parent accepts help.
Individual Learning Plan is developed.
New plan is effective.
New plan is inadequate for the student's disadvantage.
Student is referred to an expert for specific disadvantage testing. This is the parent's choice and responsibility.
Students are found to have disadvantage.
Grant for Special education funds is applied for by administration.
Funds are used to acquire the services of a specialized teacher to meet the needs of the specific student.
Testing proves to be negative or inconclusive. New ILP is developed by student, parent, teacher and special education teacher.
Flexible time requirements
Individual specific worksheets with detailed specific instructions.
Individual instruction time. In-class when time permits and also outside of regular classtime.
Student has behavioral problems in class. Does not follow or refuses instruction.
As we are a private school the selection process is careful not to accept students whose needs would exceed the capabilities of the school. Being a very small school (about 100 students), there are certain needs that would be considered beyond the budget of our school.
