Summative
Final/ Mid term exams: These exams are at the end of a semester and test the knowledge of students about all of the information.
End of unit or chapter test: These tests can be taken at the end of a unit or a chapter to assess what the students have learned.
Diagnostic
KWL chart: Before a lesson the teacher can fill out a KWL chart to see what the students know, want to know and then what they learned.
Running Records: Teachers can use running records to determine reading level and then can plan accordingly.

Exit tickets: the teacher can ask a question to assess their knowledge and the students have to answer the question and turn it in by the end of the class period
