Formative :
Defintion: Type of assessment that involves gathering evidence of student mastery. Allows a teacher to adjust lesson as needed and to provide feedback.
Exit Ticket: Students complete a personal interpretation of lesson on a post it note. The post it is placed on a wall chart near the exit of the classroom.
Think-Pair-Share: Teacher will ask question, then have students write down their answer. Students are then paired off, and are made to share their responses with one another.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Type of periodic testing that is low level and requires little feedback. Feedback itself is on student knowledge.

Chapter Test: Test given at the end of unit/chapter involving questions based on the most recent content learned.
Summative
Definition: Type of assessment used to evaluate student's learning at the end of an instructional unit as a means of comparison against a benchmark or standardized test.

Final Project: A type of assessment that calls for students to demonstrate mastery of content in the form of a compilation project.
Performance
Definition: Type of assessment that requires a student performance as form of mastery versus written assessment.
Act It Out: Students are tasked with providing reading comprehension through performance, or acting out a story through retelling.

Diagnostic
Definition: Type of preassesment gives to students as a means of determining level of competency with content. Used by teachers to help plan future lessons.
Survey: Students answer carefully selected questions selected/created by their teacher as a means of gauging student experience with content.
KWL Chart: Students use graphic organizer to write what they know first, followed by by what they want to know, and finished with what they have learned.
