Assessment
Formative
Think - Pair - Share: Teacher will ask a question, students will write down their answer. Teacher will pair up students to collaborate and share answers. Teacher will circle room to listen to collaboration.
3-2-1 Countdown: Students will have a card and will list 3 things you didn't know before, 2 things that surprised you about the topic , and one thing you want to start doing with what you've learned.
Summative
Definition: Used to gauge a students knowledge at the end of a unit or large chunk of learning by comparing it against a standard or benchmark. Often weighed heavily or worth a large chunk of points.
Midterm Exam: An exam given near the middle of any academic grading period such as a quarter, semester or term.
Final Project: Is the final presentation of the unit, quarter, or semester. Gives students the chance to exhibit all they have learned.
Interim / Benchmark
Definition: These assessments are used to gauge a students learning, to see where they are in the learning process. These assessments can also be used as predictors of future success with the content.
STAAR: A standardized test used in Texas school systems to test the knowledge of the student and assess the information they learned that year in school.

Performance
Definition: Performance assessments, also known as authentic assessments require a student to perform a task instead of choosing an answer.
Performances: Through performance-based assessment students create, perform, or provide a critical response. Forms of performance include dance and drama.
Projects: Often used by teachers as performance-based activities. Include everything from research papers to artistic representations of the content learned.

Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are used by teachers to see how much knowledge a student has on a subject prior to starting the unit. Sometimes known as a pre test. Teachers can use this information when creating their lesson plans.
KWL Chart: A KWL chart allows students to state what they already know, what they would like to know, and what they've learned.
Surveys: A survey can be used to find out the facts and figures that students already know as well as any misconceptions students have about the topic.
