Impact on Learning
Affects the ability to understand that others have different desires and beliefs than theirs. Trouble understanding how their behavior affects others. Unable to understand the perspective of others leads to difficulty getting along with others. Usual milestone to develop these skills ranges between 3-5 but takes longer with those who have ASD.
Struggle with focus, memory, transitions, organization, time management, emotional control, and frustration. Unable to organize ones thoughts to form a proper solution to a problem. Lost in the bigger picture and lose themselves in the details.
ASD develops at different rates and develop skills in a different order than typical developing children.
Have difficulty creating eye contact and communicating efficiently.

Not all students with hearing impairments have the same level of literacy, and many use different combinations of spoken and sign languages. Teachers must understand the individual student and make necessary adjustments to learning strategy.
