Formative
Formative Definition: Formative assessments are a way for teachers to evaluate and see if the students are comprehending what is being taught. Formative assessments are often informative and do not usually affect grades.

Summative Definiton: Summative assessments are usually taken at the end of a unit. These assessments are often used as a grade.

Diagnostic
Diagnostic Definition: These assessments serve as a type of pre-assessment. It allows the teacher to see what the student knows and any misconceptions they might have. It also allows the teacher to set their main focus during instruction.
KWL Chart: Students will write down what they know (Prior Knowledge), then what they want to know, and lastly what they have learned.
Think-Ink-Pair-Share: Students are told a topic, they then have to write what they know. Once written the student will share with their partner what they wrote.
Interim/Benchmark
Interim/Benchmark Definition: These assessments are used to see where the students are and if they are on the correct track for their grade level.
