Mass Changes
If a reactant or product is gas, its mass is often not included in calculations.
-
There are 2 possibilities:
- A gaseous product escapes
- Gasses enter the system and therefore increase the mass of the products made
-
E.g. after heating 6.2g of copper carbonate the product copper oxide has a mass of 4g therefore 2.2g of gas was produced during the reaction.
