- - - - Now there was less of a desire for women to get married and raise children. Women felt more empowered to make their own decisions.
    - - This was still not that amazing considering the fact that The Feminine Mystique only spoke for white women.
      - In 1969, a group of women protested the Miss America Pageant.
        
        These women were then nicknamed "The Bra Burners" even though no bras were actually burned at the protest.
        
        In 1973, Roe v Wade was passed which made abortion legal.
        
        This was a huge win for feminists who had been fighting for women's rights to her own body.
        
        Many people still debate over this today
  - - - In 1998, The Guerrilla Girls gained popularity from their billboards and posters. The group is mainly known for their protest of the San Jose Museum of Art because of it's lack of female representation.
  - - - Although this was a huge step, the right was only given to white women. Women of color still had virtually no rights.
  - - - The fourth wave of feminism started around 2012. Most fourth wave feminists fight against sexual harassment, sexist imagery, campus sexual harassment, rape, workplace discrimination, body shaming, misogyny, assault, and many more pressing issues.
        
        The day after president Trump's inauguration, millions of women marched all across the country for equal rights.
        
        The Pink Pussy Hats were created by Kat Coyle and Aurora Lady in response to Donald Trumps comments about grabbing women by the pussy. The idea behind the hats was to make an easy template so that many people could create their own Pink Pussy Hats. The hats are seen at all of the women's marches.
      - It is important to always have a critical eye. You must always be asking if everyone is represented. Is any group left out of the conversation completely?
- - - - The purpose of the hashtag was to expose men, especially powerful men, of sexual misconduct. It was also a way to show support and compassion to fellow women. Women started banning together and standing up to their abusers.
    - - On July 9th, 2018, President Donald Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh as his choice for Supreme Court Justice.
        
        Brett Kavanaugh was accused of sexual assault by Christine Blasey Ford. The assault occurred in 1982 when the two attened high school.
        
        Donald Trump sided with Brett Kavanaugh while millions of men and women decided to believe Dr. Ford.
        
        After a long and emotional trial, Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed by the senate on October 6th, 2018.
        
        I do not know of a single person who did not listen to at least some of this hearing. My whole ceramics class tuned in to listen and even shed some tears for Dr. Ford. Too many people were able to identify with her, so the trial was all the more emotional
        
        Personal Impact: All of these instances have been troubling for me. It is an unsettling time in our country and around the world for women, but it is empowering and exciting to see women fighting back and standing up for what we believe in.
        
        Many men and a select few women did not believe Dr. Ford and thought that she was making up a story so that Kavanaugh would not be elected and replace the left leaning Anthony Kennedy.
        
        Saturday Night Live created a parody skit about the trial and mocked Kavanaugh for his childish behavior
      - Trump said in a report that he would not consider himself a feminist because he claimed to be for all people, not just women.
        
        Trump and his supporters reduced feminism to a group of people who expressed hostility towards men.

        Cabell Molina is inspiring to me because of the simplicity of her work along with the powerful message that she sends to society. It reminds me of what is possible in the art classroom. Appropriation of images can be an effective way to communicate a powerful message.

        Shirin Neshat Is special because her artwork makes me ponder something that I find to be very important. She makes me think about who is left out of the conversation when it comes to art, politics, and discussion about important issues. White women are not the only women who need to be heard. People from all races, ethnicities, abilities, ages, gender identities, and sexualities should be equally represented. It is so much harder to create your own sense of identity if the media is telling you that you are wrong or invalid.
