- - - - Wave Three: Wave Three started in the mid 90s and was informed by post-colonial and postmodern thinking. Constructs were destabilized, like the “universal womanhood”. In the third wave feminism was mystified by the earlier feminists because of the young feminists who seemed to dress for the male oppression. Though it was then expressed that it is possible for woman to be able to look attractive and still have a brain and be smart. It then created in the third wave that set a stage of strong, empowered woman defining feminine beauty for themselves and not for the sexist patriarchy. The internet in the third wave created another woman only space but at the same time permits all users the opportunity to read. In this wave, the word feminists is rejected due to the limitations and exclusions. Grrl-feminism is global and multicultural. The third wave feminism breaks boundaries.
        
        Wave Four: The fourth wave is emerging today. Feminism now is going from the academy and back into the realm of public discourse. The issues in the earliest phases are coming back into the face of media and politicians. For example, sexual abuse, rape, unequal pay, slut-shaming, and body imaging. Some people in the fourth wave do not wish to use the word “feminism” because of older connotations and exclusion subtext of “for woman only.” The fourth wave can evolve though because of millennials re owning the word “feminists” for themselves. We currently are in the fourth wave and are unsure how it will materialize and the direction it will take.

- - - - In 1980 the Woman's Monitoring Network researched a project titled 'Sexism in the Media' by selecting a series of days in which printed media in the UK was full of sexist images. Many women across the country sent in clippings, illustrations, advertising material that were sexist. Themes of patriarchy were recurring in the six reports that were produced.
        
        In the late 1970s to late 1980s there was a recognition of women's changing roles in advertisers as women became roles other than housewives, or migrating roles. The new advertising roles portrayed respect and authority.
        
        In 2006 Post-it created an add degrading women. The ad shows a morning after a night out one night stand. The woman has a post-it with her name on it suggesting that the guy wouldn't remember her name. The tag line for the advertisement is 'For the things you'll forget.' Not only is the ad unallied for but also in the tag line the woman is referred to as a thing that she is just an object.
        
        I could go on and on about all of the ads that degrade women but here are some tv ads that encourage womanhood and feminism.

  - - - Interpellate is highlighted in advertisements that are successful and not successful in feminism. The way an image is used and text added with it can enhance a feminist idea or degrade women and the idea of feminism.
        
        Feminism has so much to do with Gender and Sex. The definition of feminism is: the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.
        
        Feminism is about encouraging women to own their Power.
        
        Marxism came up when I was researching Feminism. The article stated "The second wave was increasingly theoretical, based on a fusion of neo-Marxism and psycho-analytical theory, and began to associate the subjugation of women with broader critiques of patriarchy, capitalism, normative heterosexuality, and the woman's role as wife and mother." Marxism is about creating all equal so it would make sense that feminism would have some marxism theory behind it.

- - - - Seeing feminism and the lack of in visual culture is hard not to come by these days. Especially that we have social media and the internet so close (just a touch of a button). As a Female I am impacted daily through visual culture on how the female gender should be represented. The concept and beliefs of Feminism and growth of Female Empowerment give me hope that I can continue to wake up each day with a positive outlook on myself, female friends, coworkers, and every woman I pass daily.
        
        The social Implications of Feminism is to inform others of female equality, and encourage women to fight for themselves and their power. The female identity is so much more than just a house wife or mother. The female identity through Feminism takes on a whole world of possibilities where she can fulfill her dreams, desires, and aspirations.
