Mystery Bag: Organize students into groups of 3-4. Present each group with a bag with different prompts, questions, assessment items, manipulative, or words. Each student draws one card or item out of the bag, analyzes it, and explains its significance or answers the question. Groups members have a quick round table discussion about the item or question, adding ideas or clarifying confusing parts. Teacher sees and hears students’ thinking and clarifies/verifies as appropriate.
