PERFORMANCE
Definition- this assessment is when the student is required to preform a given task not just answer a question or write.
ACTING OUT/ RETELLING- Have students act or retell a story or event you have taught to determine their understanding.
-
DIAGNOSTIC
Definition-the best way to describe this assessment is like a pre assessment. That is something that you give to students before teaching a unit to see what they know, what their weak areas are, and it helps you know what and how to plan your lesson on.
THUMBS UP/DOWN- this is a great example of a pre-assessment. The teacher can ask the students a question regarding material going to be taught and it can be as simple as yes or no answer. The students can give a thumbs up or a thumbs down and that will let the teacher know how she needs to plan her lesson.
-
FORMATIVE
Definition- A formative assessment is a process of gathering evidence of student learning and providing feedback. From there the teacher can adjust their instructional strategy to target each student.
EXIT TICKET- You can have each student write their answer to a specific question on a note card and drop it in a box before leaving class.
3-2-1- with this method you have students write 3 things they learned, 2 questions they still have, and 1 suggestion to make the lesson more clear.
INTERIM-BENCHMARK
Definition- this assessment is used to find out where students are and if they are on the track to their goal by the end of the year.
STAAR- This varies by grade level but is an exam given to see what each student has learned throughout that specific grade level.
MIDTERM- this is something this is given to the upper grades mainly. It almost like a practice final but it lets the teacher know if the students are on track or if things need to be readdressed.
