Selecting a group membership is essential in the pre-planning process. There are a few contributes to the student population of the counseling group. The needs assessment, personality assessment, and group population all help in the selecting group members. The school counselor will collaborate with teachers and administrators in selecting potential students, who will benefit from the group session. A needs assessment can be made by interviewing the students and family members to determine the magnitude of the student's needs and as well as the feasibility of the group(Sink, C.A. C & Eppler, 2012). A personality examination can also contribute toward selecting the group by determining, how will the student personality contribute in a group. If a shy student is shy another student must be outgoing to have personality in the counseling group (Sink, C.A. C & Eppler, 2012). The last component is the group population. According to Sink,C. Edwards, C., Eppler, C., the elementary group works best when there are five to seven students. If they are fewer students, it will be hard to share ideas and if there more kids will be too “active” for group productivity. (Sink, C.A. C & Eppler, 2012)
