SYNOVIAL JOINTS
Adjoining bones separated by a joint cavity
Only joints that have a space between the adjoining bones, which allows for more movement.
Joint Cavity space between bones that is surrounded by a joint capsule- space filled with synovial membrane which produces synovial fluid to fill the cavity.
-
Inner layer
Areolar connective tissue, composed of hyaline cartilage at ends of bones. Holds Synovial membrane-soft tissue found between the articular capsule (joint capsule) and the joint cavity of synovial joints.
Secretes synovial fluid which lubricates the joint, reducing friction between the bones and allowing for greater movement.
